Monday 8 November 2004: Lecture - The Heart and the Rose
|
Local historian and
re-enactment specialist Jon Cooper treated LCT Members to an excellent talk
about his interest in the
Battle of Linlithgow Bridge, which took place in 1526.
Jon managed to
bring the topic alive with music of the time as well as contemporary
armour and weapons.

- Sunday 26th September 2004: Garden visit
- An intrepid party of three visited the remote but awe-inspiring
garden of Ian Hamilton Finlay called Little Sparta on a wet and windy
day.
- Sunday 10th October 2004. Visit to Biggar and Carmichael Mill
- Jim Ness gave us a most interesting tour of the village highlighting
points of historical and architectural interest. Following this,
members of the Trust were entertained by Ken Fawell and his wife at
Carmichael Mill on the banks of the Clyde near Hyndford Bridge. We
were given a fascinating insight into the working of the mill as well
as a tour of the magnificent gardens. Our thanks go to Chris Miller,
Chairman of the Biggar and District Civic Trust.

- Sunday 6 June 2004 - Outing to West Wemyss
- Our major summer outing was to West Wemyss, after a most interesting
visit to the School of Needlework, we were guided around the restoration work in the
conservation village
by Ann Watters and Brian Freeland of the Kirkcaldy Civic
Society followed by high tea at the the The
Belvedere Hotel.
If you missed the outing, the School of Needlework is open every
Monday to Friday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.

- Sunday 16 May 2004 - Visit to Newliston House
- On sunday 16 May, Caroline MacLachlan showed members round her
nicely proportioned home. Newliston was designed by Robert Adam
and completed in 1792 with wings, designed by David Bryce, added in
1845. We also enjoyed strolling round the gardens, which
contain some very old trees, on a lovely sunny afternoon.
- If you missed this visit, Newliston is open to the public from 2 to
6 pm Wednesday to Sunday until the 4th June for a modest fee, all of
which goes to charity.

- April 2004 - LCT AGM at Bonnytoun House
- Our 2004 AGM was held at Bonnytoun
House, the home of our members Alan and Catherine Moodie: we are grateful
to the Moodies for allowing us the use of their home for this occasion.
The well attended AGM was followed by a buffet supper with
wine and there was also be a raffle.

March 2004 - LCT Lecture - The Scottish Parliament
The 2004 LCT Annual Lecture was presented on 15th March in the
Canal Center on the subject of the Scottish Parliament. It is
hoped that a visit will be organised once the new building is open

- Feb 2004 - Annet Lecture - Garden History and Design
- Annet Lecture (organised by Linlithgow Heritage
Trust). This year the speaker was Graeme Moore, President of the
Institute of Horticulture in Scotland and an authority on garden
history. Graeme looked at the study of garden history linked to the
practice of garden management and design, with particular reference to
the garden at Annet House.
