Progress Report - January 2009

Burgh Beautiful volunteers hope to enter the Beautiful Scotland competition in 2009. Thanks are owing to Leslie Aitken who will project manage this bid and Ron Smith who has said he will print off the brochure again this year.

On the town furniture front, the finger posts and town notice board that we had suggested for last year's share of the town improvement funding are going ahead. Watch out for extra/new furniture at the Low Port, the DIY shop, Brae Court and from the Health Centre up to the West Port. It is hoped that this will much improve the streetscape. Work has already been carried out at the West Port to improve the look there and to hopefully prevent parking on the pavement.

Unfortunately the combined objections of Highways concerning sight lines, pavement width, under street cables and services, and from lighting engineers regarding the effects on light levels in the road and in adjoining houses, make more trees in the High Street continue to be a remote possibility.

On the fund raising front, we were successful with a stall on the High Street. We sold bulbs and had an amazingly lucrative raffle. Special thanks to Liz for her hard work in gathering prizes and to Leslie and Kirsty for selling tickets so well. Thanks to all who helped on the day.
