Burgh Beautiful

 Working towards a
 Greener, Brighter, Cleaner Linlithgow

The Future of Burgh Beautiful

At a meeting in the Canal Tearoom on 29th October 2009 it was agreed by a large majority that Burgh Beautiful should continue to be run as a sub-committee of Linlithgow Civic Trust.  Meetings will be held in the near future to appoint a new committee and agree membership of the planting group.

Burgh Beautiful Progress Reports:

Beautiful Scotland:

Background

The Civic Trust has discussed over the years the role that it might play in improving the overall appearance of Linlithgow.  In 2004 the LCT committee decided to take the leading role, along with other local organisations, in the "Burgh Beautiful" project.

From a landscape point of view, the High street does not compare favourably with many other historic town centres. Visitors to the Palace must receive a distinctly unwelcoming impression of the town.  In addition, we ourselves will be happier going about our daily activities in a more cheerful environment.  A number of meetings were held and West Lothian Council was very keen that we should go ahead.

There is a strong indication that more support will be forthcoming if we aim for entry to the Beautiful Scotland in Bloom competition. The aims of this competition cover environmental schemes, cleanliness and sustainability as well as floral planting and the involvement of schools and young people. The project must be community led.
