A Vision for Linlithgow

Response to the SESPlan Main Issues Report

Linlithgow Civic Trust has commented on the SESPlan Main Issues Report and has formally requested that the Strategic Development Plan for South East Scotland be amended to:

  1. remove Linlithgow as an example of places where development restraint is necessary; and
  2. state that Linlithgow has unique strategic infrastructure needs which may need to be funded through modest housing development (capped at 900 units), undertaken and strictly controlled as part of an action plan for the town.

Update: Vision 2

Linlithgow Civic Trust has reviewed and updated the "Vision for Linlithgow".  See A vision for Linlithgow 2010 - 2030 for details.

LCT's Original Vision for Linlithgow

Linlithgow Civic Trust does not believe that West Lothian Council's Local Plan adequately addresses the future needs of Linlithgow.  An alternative plan was drawn up by the Executive Committee and endorsed at a Special General Meeting of the membership on 29 November 2005.

The 'Vision for Linlithgow 2005-2015', available for download from this website, sets out a strategy based upon:

  1. controlled expansion of the town, linked, via a master-planning process, to the provision of a range of essential community facilities
  2. the priority of an effective traffic management system across the town as a whole, including motorway junction upgrading, High Street bypass provision, an enhanced public transport network and associated traffic calming measures.
