Text of a Letter to the Head of Development & Regulatory Services

Finalised West Lothian Local Plan 2005
Objection from Linlithgow Civic Trust

Thank you for your letter of 14 April 2008 intimating the availability of the Reporters' verdict on the finalised West Lothian Local Plan.

The Trust is, of course, very disappointed to note in particular the reporters' effective rejection of the Trust's Vision for Linlithgow. It does not consider that the suggested 'Town Centre Action Plan' will be nearly as effective as the approach advocated by the Trust, simply because the funding will not be available to properly and comprehensively address the issues we have raised.  In this context, the Trust is increasingly concerned that the Council is effectively abandoning Linlithgow through its transfer of 'County Town' status to Livingston.

In the circumstances, Linlithgow Civic Trust urges the Council to disregard the Reporters' advice and incorporate the Trust's Vision for Linlithgow (or a suitable variation of it) in the Local Plan for adoption.  Failing that, the Trust would like the Council to pursue an appropriate alteration to the Structure Plan at the earliest opportunity, followed by a Local Plan amendment.

I trust that full account will be taken of this representation and I look forward to hearing from you in due course.
