JOINT RESPONSE TO PLANNING CONSULTATION

Erection of 14.2 metre telecommunications mast at Mains Road, Linlithgow.

Planning Application Number - 0938/FUL/08 Wendy McCorriston

Applicant Vodafone

Observations

Although the application site is backed by a wooded slope, the proposed mast will be over-prominent on the inside of a bend on one of the main roads into Linlithgow. The situation of the installation only a short distance back from the kerb also makes it unnecessarily obtrusive in the street scene and, in the spring, will detract from the recent daffodil planting undertaken in the vicinity by the Burgh Beautiful campaign.

It is also necessary to question whether such a height is absolutely essential and whether or not sharing with an existing mast is a possibility.

If, however, mast sharing is not an option, the present proposal should still be refused on grounds of amenity in that it significantly detracts from the appearance of one of Linlithgow's main approach roads. An alternative proposal, further away from the road (preferably out of sight) and of lower height may be acceptable.

Conclusions

The Civic Trust and the WLHAS wish to OBJECT to this proposal as per the above.
