Linlithgow Civic Trust and West Lothian History and Amenity Society
JOINT RESPONSE TO PLANNING CONSULTATION
Proposal: Erection of 14.2 metre telecommunications mast at Preston Road,
Linlithgow.
Planning Application Number - 0929/FUL/08 Ranald Dods
Applicant Vodafone
Observations
Although the application site is, to some extent, screened by the overhanging
branches of mature trees, the species of tree concerned may not have a long life
and, accordingly, a tall mast in this location may become much more prominent in
the future. The situation of the installation on the pavement also makes it
unnecessarily obtrusive in the street scene.
It is also necessary to question whether such a height is absolutely
necessary and whether or not sharing with an existing mast is a possibility.
If, however, mast sharing is not an option, the present proposal should still
be refused on grounds of amenity. An alternative proposal, further away from the
road and of lower height may be acceptable.
Conclusions
The Civic Trust and the WLHAS wish to OBJECT to this proposal as per
the above.
