The Future of the Civic Buildings in Linlithgow

Linlithgow Civic Trust Policy

Linlithgow Civic Trust is concerned regarding current proposals to move the functions of the County Buildings in Linlithgow to a new civic centre at Livingston, West Lothian.

At a time when the Scottish Executive is attempting to decentralise its labour force from Edinburgh, it is astounding that West Lothian Council is proposing to centralise its activities in a purpose-built facility in Livingston. Today, electronic communications mean that people can readily be in touch even though not in the same building. We cannot understand the logic behind this proposal.

If implemented, the result will be a significant reduction in the vitality of the town. There will be a considerable loss of income to the many various small businesses in the town. Staff working at the offices and living locally will have further to travel.

The Trust is also concerned about the future of the fine paintings displayed in the stairs and hallway. They are a well kept secret. Are they to disappear to Livingston too?
